Apollo approached Marble to assist in developing a clever surgical tool designed to fit onto an endoscope enabling remote full thickness suturing.
Concept Generation
Marble developed a number of concept options and working prototypes to take to user trials for evaluation of the most appropriate attachment mechanisms. Marble also designed and developed concepts for alternative handles and driving mechanisms for deploying the sutures. Following development of the original Overstitch Device, Marble then assisted Apollo develop the Overstitch SX allowing the full thickness suturing to be done on a wider range of scopes including single channel devices.
Manufacturing Process Development
The Overstitch is an endoscopic suturing system. It is precision made, intricate and single use; presenting challenges in terms of manufacturing cost. Marble supported Apollo in design for manufacture activities by recommending product and assembly jig changes to improve device manufacturability and increase production yield. Marble supported Apollo through the scale up process and into production.
